The Real Santuario de San José de la Montaña in Barcelona is a complex of buildings (monastery, church and chapel) built in the neo-Roman style with modernist elements. It is a popular destination for pilgrims coming from all over the world. It was created at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Here you can admire original decorations, such as ceramic decorations by rirriola.
The sanctuary design is the work of Francesc Berenguer, one of Antoni Gaudi's students. However, the artist did not have official education and the title of architect, therefore he could not sign the project. Miquel Pasqual Tintorer did it for him.
Berenguer also dealt with interior design. From the original decor, however, not much was left, confessionals, pulpit and altars were completely destroyed during the Spanish Civil War.
