Plaça de Sant Felip Neri is located in Barcelona's Ciudad Vieja district. It owes its name to the Baroque church standing here. The square is surrounded by historic houses in the Renaissance style. The central point is the fountain on an octagonal base.
In 1938, during the Spanish Civil War, the church and its immediate surroundings were partially destroyed as a result of a rebel bomb exploding. At that time, many people protecting themselves in the temple's basement were killed, mainly children. Traces of this tragedy are still visible on the walls that survived.
The city architect Adolf Florensa Ferrer was responsible for the reconstruction of the square. During the reconstruction fragments of facades were used, which survived. The square appeared in the movie "Perfume: the story of a murderer" based on the book by Patrick Süskind.
