Royal Palace of Pedralbes

Local name: Palau Reial de Pedralbes

The Palau Reial de Pedralbes is the former residence of the Spanish royal family. It is now home to the secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean. The biggest tourist attraction today are the beautiful gardens surrounding the building, you can see the Hercules fountain and the pergola designed by Antoni Gaudi. The palace is not open to the public.

The property originally belonged to the Güell family. In 1918, part of the property was handed over to King Alfonso XIII, at that time the existing summer mansion was rebuilt in the Renaissance style, under the responsibility of two architects: Eusebi Bona and Francesco Nebot. The gardens were designed by Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí.

The interiors of the palace retained their original character, private rooms were arranged by King Alfonso XIII and his wife, Queen Victòria Eugenia.
