Torres Romanes in Barcelona are two high towers, which are part of the historic wall from Roman times. You can admire them at Plaza Nueva, they come from the 4th century, they were rebuilt in the 12th century. They were built around one of the entrance gates to the city, at Portal del Bisbe (Bishop's Gate). Fortifications were entered in the register of monuments.
The city wall was made of stones, its thickness was from 3.5 to 9 meters, while the circumference was 1.5 kilometers. Fragments preserved to this day are the remains of the settlement of Barcino, which was built in the place where today is the oldest district of the city - Barri Gòtic.
The Romans arrived in this area in 15 BC. The first walls were built in the first century, but they did not protect effectively against the invasion of foreign tribes. They were strengthened in the 4th century, the space between the two walls was filled with stones and mortar.
