L'Ardiac's House

Local name: Casa de l'Ardiaca

La Casa de l'Ardiaca in Barcelona is a former archdeacon residence built on the remains of the Roman city walls. Noteworthy: a carved letterbox made of marble, which is decorated with images of swallows and a turtle, and a patio with a neo-Gothic fountain.

The Archdeacon's house was built in the 12th century and is famous for its distinctive, diverse body. The facade shows influences of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. Currently, it houses the headquarters of the historical archive of the capital of Catalonia.

The building gained its current shape in the 15th century. It is from this period that the colonnade comes, which after the nineteenth-century expansion turned into an internal courtyard. Here you can admire colorful mosaics with floral motifs, while in the central point, next to the fountain, there is a palm tree that rises high above the walls and is clearly visible from the outside.
