Font de la Portaferrissa is a historic drinking fountain from the 17th century. It was made of stone from the Montjuïc hill and decorated with a colorful mosaic that depicts scenes from the city's life. Their background is the walls that no longer exist. This is one of the oldest sources in Barcelona.
The ceramic mosaic is the work of Joan Baptista Guivernau and Sans, it was created in the late 1950s. It was given a text by Pedro Voltes. Enamelled tiles form a story about the inhabitants of Barcelona from the 18th century. Above the city walls among the clouds hovers the figure of St. Józef Oriol, a Catalan priest who holds the cross in his hand.
The creator of the source is unknown. The fountain was created here as a source of drinking water for all residents. She was placed near one of the gates leading to the city.
