Fabra is an astronomical observatory in Barcelona located 415 meters above sea level. Scientists working here are observing asteroids, comets and double stars. This is the fourth oldest object of this type in the world, which is constantly conducting research, has been entered into the register of monuments. The observatory can be visited with a guide, tourists will see modernist interiors and century-old telescopes.
The observatory collects seismic and meteorological data on an ongoing basis. Has made significant successes, such as the discovery of comet 32P / Comas Solá (1926). In 1992 he received Narcís Monturiol (Premis Narcís Monturio), an award granted by the Catalan government for outstanding achievements in the development of science and technology.
The observatory building was erected according to the design of the architect Josep Domenech and Estapà. It was opened in 1904, King Alfonso XIII took part in the ceremony. The institution belongs to Reial Académia de Ciències and Arts de Barcelona.
