The Church of Saint Philip Neri is located in the Gothic Quarter. It is one of only a few baroque monuments in Barcelona. The church has a relatively simple facade, with an entrance portal topped with a figure of Saint Philip. The single-nave interior is surrounded by a ring of chapels with neoclassical altars.
The temple was built for the order of the Philippines who resided there. It stood in the place where Saint Philip, the founder of the order, had chosen his seat. During the Civil War, the facade of the church was severely damaged by shelling. It was decided that during the renovation, bullet marks would be left as a reminder of this painful event.
The church is small because initially it was intended only for the monks living in the monastery. It consists of a nave and a semicircular chancel. In the main neoclassical altar there is a scene of the Crucifixion and figures of angels and saints adoring the cross.
