Cable car - San Sebastián Tower

Local name: Teleférico Del Puerto - Torre de San Sebastián

The Torre de San Sebastián cable car connects Barcelona's port with the top of Montjuic. Its route is 1,303 m long and divided into two equal sections. The line runs at an altitude of 70 m, so you can enjoy picturesque, panoramic views of the port and the city while traveling. The journey takes place in octagonal cabins that can accommodate up to 24 passengers at a time.

The funicular was built according to the design of the architect Carles Buïgas on the occasion of the International Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929. It was inaugurated two years later. During the Spanish Civil War in 1936-1939, and then during World War II, the cable car's cabling was removed and its towers were used to defend the port. The cable car was started again in the 1960s.
