Arenas de Barcelona is a former bullfighting arena, and now one of the larger and better known shopping malls in the city. Located at the Plaza de Espana, at the foot of Montjuic. It is a brick building erected in the neo-Moorish style. On the roof there is a viewing terrace.
The Arena was built in 1900. It was used to carry out bullfights until 1977. Later it was destroyed and the authorities had no idea how to develop it. Only at the beginning of the 21st century it was decided to rebuild the arena into a shopping center. Construction continued for several years as a result of conflicts between architects and investors.
The center was opened in spring 2011. Over 100 stores, cafes, restaurants, a cinema and a fitness club are located on six floors. A 300-meter passage was made around the dome covering the former arena, allowing you to view Barcelona from the crown of the former stadium. The building is illuminated in the evenings. From the terrace you can enjoy the magic fountain shows.
