Central Market

Local name: Mercado Central

The historic Central Market was built according to the design of the architect Antonio Martínez Pérez in 1892-1897 as the first such covered market square in Almeria. It has two storeys and five aisles, and on its facade you can see a female figure holding a fruit basket, which is a symbol of abundance.

As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that in 2018 a plaque was unveiled here commemorating the visit of Maria Skłodowska Curie, who visited the Central Market on May 1, 1931.
