The monumental complex of the Alcazaba of Almería consists of a fortified castle located on a hill and three rings of defensive walls surrounding it. Apart from the castle, behind the walls there were residential houses, craft workshops, cisterns, wells, a mosque and baths. Visitors can see the remains of the complex and walk on the walls bordered by watchtowers. It is the largest and best preserved Moorish fortress in Andalusia.
The building was built in the tenth century to defend the city against attacks from both the sea and land. The object was captured only in the 15th century by Christian troops and was still used as a fortress by Spanish monarchs. In Alcazab, shots were made for the films of Conan the Barbarian, The Last Crusade and Indiana Jones.
