Synagogue
Local name: Synagóga
The synagogue on Heydukova Street in Bratislava is the only survivor of the Second World War Jewish prayer house in the Slovak capital. It is a modernist building hidden behind a huge colonnade. The interior is kept in a similar climate, with cubist concrete columns and a bimah made of forged metal.
The synagogue was built in 1923-1926 according to the design of Artur Szalatnai-Slatinski. To this day, it is a functioning Jewish prayer house. Serves the small Jewish community living in Bratislava.
The building has an unusual appearance for a synagogue. Its front is hidden behind rectangular stone columns. In the frieze crowning the colonnade, only simple palm-leaf decorations were placed. The arrangement of columns is also repeated on the facade in the form of pilasters. The windows are decorated with grates made of concrete with floral and geometric ornaments.
