Slovak National Gallery
Local name: Slovenská národná galéria
The Slovak National Gallery is a cultural institution operating in Bratislava and in Zvolen, Strażki, Ruzomberok and Pezinok. Its headquarters is rebuilt from the war damage of the Esterházi Palace in Bratislava, the local former military barracks and a modernist building adjacent to the Palace. The gallery presents collections of old and modern paintings, mainly created in Slovakia.
The most valuable painting in the collection of the Slovak National Gallery is the posthumous portrait of a representative of the possible Horvath family of an unknown author. This is a typical example of painting that developed in Central Europe during the Reformation, and was particularly popular in Hungary. In addition, in the gallery you can see sacred art collections, paintings of painters associated with Bratislava and collections of modern art.
