Holy Trinity Column
Local name: Morový stĺp
The Plague Column (Morovy Stlp) stands on Fish Square, near the Danube. It is a baroque column with the image of the Holy Trinity placed on top. She is surrounded by saints who pray to God for supplication and thanksgiving.
The construction of plague columns was very popular in the countries of Central Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. This custom spread mainly in the Habsburg Monarchy. In Bratislava, the column was built in 1712 after the end of the great plague that depopulated the city.
The name of the creator of the monument is unknown. It presents the Holy Trinity - God the Father and Jesus placed under the golden rays of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Placed on the pedestal are the saints Andrzej, Roch and Karol Boromeusz and a call to Saint Rozalia, the patron of the sick. On both sides of the column are the figures of the Mother of God and the first Hungarian king Saint Stephen, who offers her the Hungarian crown.
