Franciscan Square
Local name: Františkánske námestie
A woman with a vase, also called a Franciscan nymph, is a fountain standing on Franciscan Square in Bratislava. This is a copy of a 19th century sculpture that is now in the museum. It depicts a woman dressed in Greek armor whose water flows from the tilted vase.
The first well at Franciszkański Square was erected in the 16th century. Over the centuries, it was rebuilt many times. The statue of a woman with a vase standing here today was made in 1804. Today, due to the progressive destruction of the sculpture, a copy is located here. On the pedestal of the monument there are two inscription boards, from the 16th and 19th centuries, as well as the coats of arms of Austria-Hungary and Bratislava.
