Fountain of St. George

The fountain of Saint George stands in the courtyard of the Primate's Palace in Bratislava. The Renaissance sculpture depicts Saint George riding a horse and fighting with a dragon.

The sculpture is an illustration of the "Golden Legend", popular in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, of which the story of Saint George's fight with the dragon is part. The fountain is made of marble. Saint George in the armor of a Roman soldier mounts a horse. A spear pierces the dragon swarming at his feet, the personification of evil and Satan.
