Church of the Savior
Local name: Kostol Najsv. Spasiteľa
The Church of the Holy Savior (Kostol Najsv. Spasitela) stands in the center of Bratislava, in the vicinity of the Old Town Hall. The late Renaissance building has a simple facade and a hipped roof covered with tiles. Inside, you can see a Renaissance altar with a painting depicting the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor.
In the first half of the 16th century, the church of the Holy Savior served local Protestants. During the Counter-Reformation, it was taken over by Jesuits. It is a very simple towerless building with a wide facade and Renaissance portals. The interior has virtually no decorations, only the remains of the polychrome are preserved in the presbytery. There is also a late Renaissance altar and a carved tabernacle.
