Betliar Palace has been on the list of national cultural monuments since 1985. In the years 1988-1994 it was restored and received the Europa Nostra award - the most important European award in the field of cultural heritage.
The classicist residence was built on the site of a small defensive castle belonging to the Bebek family. In the 18th century it became the property of the Hungarian Andrassy family, who transformed the stronghold into an impressive estate, surrounded by an English-style park. Currently, it is one of the largest parks in Slovakia (80 hectares), which has the status of a monument and is included in the list of world historical gardens. It is decorated with classicist and romantic sculptures, an artificial cave and a waterfall. The manor house was owned by the Andrassy family until 1945, when it was taken over by the state.
The palace now houses a museum with valuable collections of 19th century art, classicist furniture, hunting trophies, a collection of weapons, and exotic souvenirs. The historical library contains over 15,000 titles.
