Toplița is a small town on the outskirts of Transylvania known for its thermal waters and a 17th century monastery.
The city was founded in the late Middle Ages and was a local trade and craft center. Throughout its history, it was damaged many times by the Tatar and Turkish invasions and as a result of insurgent fights. For this reason, few monuments from the past centuries have survived here.
The destruction bypassed in part the oldest building in the city today, i.e. the 17th-century Monastery in Toplițy . Today, the restored church, decorated inside with beautiful paintings, is surrounded by traditional multi-storey residential buildings with wooden porches. The whole is decorated with vines and a courtyard planted with vegetation. In the city there is also the Monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a wooden church and the Museum of the Monastery of St. Elijah .
Toplița's main attractions are the local hot springs. They are used in the Bánffy Thermal Baths and the Urmánczy Fürdő thermal baths. An interesting fact about the area is the mesothermal waterfall with hot water.
