The natural dam lake lies at an altitude of 938 m above sea level, in the Bicaz-Hasmaș Gorge National Park. It was established in 1838 as a result of the collapse of the slope during an earthquake. Its circumference is 2.8 km long and the maximum depth is 10.5 m. The lake is fed by 4 large streams and 12 other temporary watercourses, including Verescheul, Licaș and Suhardul.
There is a microclimate in the vicinity of the lake, especially favorable for the treatment of mental and physical exhaustion, insomnia and neurasthenia. The valley where the reservoir is located is well sheltered and practically windless.
The air here is clean and the surroundings offer picturesque views. For this reason, spa tourism has flourished here since the beginning of the 20th century. You can swim on the lake in rented boats. You can also walk along its banks.
