The museum is one of the 12 branches of the National Museum of Romanian Literature. It was the first museum of this type in the country. It is located in the house where Iona Creanga, the creator of children's and youth literature, lived. In 1876, the poet and novelist Mihai Eminescu also temporarily lived here.
The museum is located in two buildings. The older one has two rooms with an exhibition of documentaries about Creang's life and work. In the new building there are exhibitions of books, photographs and documents, including personal souvenirs and items belonging to the writer. There is also a library here. On the occasion of the centenary of Creang's death, an open-air amphitheater was built here. It can seat 250 spectators.
The festival hosts four festivals every year, which are the anniversary of the writer's birth (March 1), his death (December 31) and a solemn funeral (January 2). On April 14-15, the anniversary of the inauguration of the first literary museum in Romania is celebrated.
