The Golia Monastery is a defensive monastery founded in Iasi by the Moldavian chancellor Ioan Gola in the 16th century, and thoroughly rebuilt in the mid-17th century. It is surrounded by a high wall, 9 m high and 1 m thick, additionally reinforced by towers and bell towers.
The monastic tower is 30 meters high. It is open to the public. Stairs consisting of 120 steps lead to its top. From the upper gallery and the observation deck there is a panorama of the entire city.
After the secularization of church property in 1863, the monastery was closed and fell into ruin. The church functioned until the end of the 19th century and was also closed. It was renovated in the 1940s and put back into liturgical use. The monastery itself was not restored until the 1990s. In 2016, 17 monks lived there permanently.
