Vorona Monastery

Local name: Mănăstirea Vorona

The historic Orthodox Monastery of Vorona is located in the middle of the forest, 2 km from the village of the same name. Its history dates back to the 15th century, when a group of monks founded a hermitage there. The official monastery was founded and consecrated in 1793. In 2020, a group of 54 nuns lived there.

Within the monastery complex there are 3 churches, a two-story belfry topped with a roof resembling a bishop's miter, residential and farm buildings. The valuable collections kept in the monastery include a collection of old icons and a collection of liturgical books and objects.

The monastic churches were built in the Moldavian style. The church of Nașterea Maicii Domnului is additionally topped with Russian-style towers covered with onion domes. It houses the nineteenth-century iconostasis with valuable icons and relics of St. Nicholas.
