The Romanian Naval Museum in Constanţa was opened in 1969. It is located in the building of the former Naval School. Permanent exhibitions present, among others navigation in ancient times, shipping in the Middle Ages and Ottoman times, and the history and development of the modern navy.
The museum's collections include ancient amphoras and ceramics, ship models and fragments of real wrecks, navigational instruments, and ship components such as anchors, engines and bow figures. There are also collections of medals, coins, uniforms, flags and weapons, both white and firearms. A separate exhibition is dedicated to submarines and the exploitation of the underwater world. The extensive library has old maps, books, documents, photographs and seaman's press.
