Cheia Monastery stands on the banks of the Tâmpa Creek in the southeast of Cheia. Its history dates back to 1770, when the first wooden church was built here. It was destroyed by the Turks just a few years later. It was rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century, but it burned down again soon. The present brick temple is from 1835-1839. There you can see historic frescoes by Gheorghe Tattarescu.
