Călărași Zoo is one of the largest zoos in Romania, both in terms of the number of animal species and the area it occupies. It is also the only zoo in the country to breed Siberian tigers, jaguars and emus.
At the zoo, you can see lions, leopards, deer, llamas, mouflons and baboons. Hippos and grizzly bears are unique in the country. In addition, there are many species of birds, such as pelicans, capercaillies, swans, parrots, peacocks and birds of prey: eagles, hawks and owls.
Aquatic animals, reptiles, amphibians and fish are kept in the Aquaterrarium. They include powerful Nile crocodiles, several species of pythons, boa snakes, iguanas, and other lizards. There are also many species of exotic fish here.
