One of the four national operas is housed in a historic building erected in 1953. The concert hall is shaped like a horseshoe, and the stage there is 24 m wide, 20 m deep and 30 m high. The hall can seat 952 spectators. From time to time, smaller performances and events also take place in a foyer for 200 people.
The Opera Museum is located on the top floor. The building is richly decorated. The portico on its façade has three monumental arches, in which statues of four muses stand. There are also two large bas-reliefs depicting the opera stage and dancing ballerinas. Three entrances lead inside. It is also worth paying attention to the chandelier located in the main auditorium, which consists of a hundred gold-plated crystal arms.
In front of the opera house you can see the bust of composer Gheorghe Stephănescu, founder of the Romanian Opera. The building is also adjacent to a park with a bronze statue of the composer and musician George Enescu.
