Orthodox church of St. Nicholas in Brasov was built in the Gothic style in 1293. It owes its present baroque appearance to a thorough reconstruction, which was carried out in the mid-18th century. The church features historic frescoes painted by two great 19th-century painters - Mișu Poppa and Costina Petrescu.
Within the church walls there is a cemetery where important personalities from both local and national history are buried. They are buried here, among others Ioan Meșotă, Aurel Popovici and Nicolae Titulescu. There is also a statue of Coresi, a Romanian printer who lived in the 16th century and was the editor of some of the earliest printed books published in Romanian. In addition, the oldest school in Romania is located near the church.
