QUARTEIRA tourist attractions

+1 attraction

Quarteira is a large resort on the Algarve coast. Established by a 3-meter, sandy beach eagerly chosen by families. It is a modern resort with beaches, water equipment rentals, numerous restaurants and nightclubs, and one of the largest water parks in Portugal.

Until the 1960s, Quarteira was a small coastal fishing village. It was formed by low, white-painted houses covered with red tiles, of which several have survived to this day. The tourist and construction boom of the second half of the 20th century meant that hotels, boarding houses and leisure infrastructure grew in the place of fishing settlements. Today there is a series of towns where several hundred thousand people spend their holidays every year.

What attracts tourists to Quarteira is primarily a wide, sandy beach. There are no steep cliffs and hundreds of stairs leading to the sea, which means that families with small children and the elderly are happy here. The beach is very well developed, with sunbeds and umbrellas, water equipment rentals and numerous bars. Along it stretches a palm-lined promenade, at which the city's night life is concentrated. A bit more inland is Aquashow Park, one of the best and best known water parks not only on the Algarve coast, but throughout Portugal.
