The Lagos Farol da Ponta da Piedade lighthouse was built on a cliff top surrounded by palm trees. A very popular attraction in the area is an evening walk to the lighthouse and watching the sunset there. The lighthouse guides the ships so that they do not crash into the high rocks of the coast.
The yellow lantern with the attached building was built at the beginning of the 20th century, initially the kerosene lamp was the source of light in the four-sided tower ended with a red dome. Since 1952, a light signal has been emitted thanks to electricity. There is a car park next to the lighthouse.
The coast at Ponta da Piedade has magnificent and unusual rock formations of sandstone cliffs. There are many caves, caves, rock arches, bays and inlets. The beach there is considered the most beautiful in Europe. The area attracts photographers because of the picturesque views.
