The Tram Museum in Porto recreates the history of these vehicles both in the city itself and around the world. One of the most important exhibits is tram number 22, the first to run on the Iberian Peninsula. In general, the museum's collection includes 25 vehicles, from the oldest (nineteenth-century), pulled by horses, called "Americanos" (American horse trams), to the last trams from the 1950s and 1960s. The museum also has a section dedicated to tram driver. You can see their equipment and uniforms as well as old tickets.
The first trams in Porto began to ride as early as 1895 and were the first in the entire Iberian Peninsula. That is why the Tram Museum is located in this city. It was opened in 1992, under the patronage of STCP, a company managing the public transport system in Porto. The museum is located in a former thermoelectric power plant. Even the oldest trams, more than 100 years old, occasionally run along the streets of the city.
