The Military Museum in Porto is an institution belonging to the Portuguese army, which mainly deals with the promotion of military history. The museum collection consists of, among others from weapons (both melee and firearms), uniforms, and even miniatures of armies from ancient times to the present day.
This place is mainly educational - it is in line with the Portuguese program of the history of the country and the world, and for a closer approximation there are also paintings painted by Carlos Alberto Santos. The museum also has a small thematic library.
The building in which the Military Museum is located was built at the end of the 19th century as a residential house. During the Spanish Civil War nuns lived in it, and after 1936 the property was rented by the government. The ceremonial inauguration of the Military Museum took place on March 21, 1980. The then President of the Republic, General Ramalho Eanes, took part in it.
