Ferreira Borges Market is a historic building in Porto. His name honors the name of José Ferreira Borges, a Portuguese lawyer and politician who supported liberal troops during the civil war in the 19th century. In 2010, the city hall of Porto granted the rights to use the building to the famous Hard Club. It currently serves as a cultural space - concerts, exhibitions and book and music fairs are organized here.
Ferreira Borges Market was built in 1885 to replace the old Mercado da Ribeira. However, he never performed the intended function, mainly due to the unwillingness of shopkeepers to leave the old market. The building remained an unusual representation of the Iron Age in Europe. A huge red building stands near Palácio da Bolsa. Formerly it was used, among others as a military equipment warehouse.
