Museum of the Order of San Francisco
Local name: Museu da Ordem de São Francisco
The museum belonging to the Third Order of Saint Francis consists of the church of the same name, the Religious House and the Catacombs. The temple is part of the UNESCO-listed old town. From 1910, the building was also classified as a Public Good. The church was built in the Gothic style, although it also has traces of reconstruction in the Baroque style. It is used today for cultural, not religious purposes.
Among the paintings presented in the museum, the most important are paintings depicting the Mother of God and Queen Isabella by Vieir Portuense from 1799. You can also view the meeting room in which the convents are organized. Noteworthy are also the catacombs from 1795 located under the church surface. The remains of people who offered a generous contribution to the Franciscan Order were buried here.
