The Cordoaria Garden is also called Jardim de Joao Chagas, which is the official name. The name commemorates the eminent Portuguese politician of the 20th century, who served as prime minister - Joao Chagas. The park is located in the center of Porto, its most striking feature is the plane tree alley with extremely dense trunks. Particularly noteworthy is the Araucaria tree with an exceptional height of 40 meters. The garden covers an area of 0.8 ha. There are bronze sculptures by Juan Munoz, Antonio Nobre and Ramalho Ortigao.
The Cordoaria Garden was founded in 1865 by Viscount de Vilar d'Allen. It was created according to the design of Emilio David. The garden was significantly redesigned in 2001 due to damage suffered. The project was coordinated by Camillo Courtier.
