Estadio do Bessa is a football stadium located in Boavista, one of the districts of Porto. The Boavista Porto team plays their home games here. This building was designed in 1999 by the Portuguese architectural firm, Grupo3, and its construction was completed in 2003. However, matches have been taking place since 1911.
Estadio do Bessa was built on the basis of the old stadium of the club, for the needs of Euro 2004 matches. The total cost of its construction was about 45 million euros. The stadium's total capacity is 28,263 seats. It is one of the most English stadiums in Portugal - it was built on a rectangular plan and consists of four individual sections.
An interesting and recognizable element of the architecture of this place is the black and white chessboard in the stands. Visitors to the stadium will also notice the often-appearing club symbol - the panther. This animal can be found in the form of sculptures and drawings.
