The Lavra elevator connects Largo da Anunciada with Rua Camara Pestana. This is the oldest public elevator in Lisbon. It covers a route of less than 200 meters with a slope of more than 20%.
The elevator was put into use in 1884. Initially, it was powered by a special hydraulic system. Today it is electrified, but the wagons have retained their original appearance. Despite the slope of the route, the interior of the elevator is on one level. There are wooden benches with backs next to the windows. The wagons are painted yellow.
The elevator is the least known of all those in Lisbon. It is also relatively rarely visited by tourists. Often, even in the season, there are no queues for her.
