Lisbon Museum - Santo António
Local name: Museu de Lisboa - Santo António
The Saint Antoni Padewski Museum is a branch of the Lisbon City Museum. It is located next to the church under the same invocation, in a place where according to tradition Saint Antonia was to come on holidays. The small museum presents works of sacred art related to the saint, as well as objects related to his cult.
Saint Anthony is commonly associated with the Italian Padua. However, his place of birth was Lisbon and he is surrounded by a special honor in Portugal. In the 17th century a church was built in the place where his parents' house was to be built. It was rebuilt after the earthquake in 1755. The house next to it was converted into a museum in the second half of the 20th century.
It shows the traditions associated with the cult of Saint Anthony. There are reliquaries, pictures, procession pictures, religious items as well as paintings and sculptures. Part of the collection is the equipment of the original St. Anthony's church saved after the earthquake, as well as interior design elements that were gradually replaced with new ones.
