São Jorge Castle Viewpoint
Local name: Miradouro do Castelo de São Jorge
The Miradouro do Castelo Sao Jorge viewpoint is located inside Saint George's Castle. It offers a magnificent view of the whole of Lisbon and the 25 April bridge and the Tagus estuary to the Atlantic.
The lookout point was opened to city residents as early as the 18th century. However, the walls on which it is located are much older and come from the fourteenth century. The place is shaded by trees, so that even in hot weather there is a pleasant temperature here.
From the castle you can admire the vast panorama of Lisbon. Below is the Alfama district with its red roofs and white buildings. Domes and church towers are visible. Down below is Tag, which flows into the Atlantic near here. The view's dominant feature is the massive steel bridge on April 25.
