The church of Nossa Senhora do Amparo is located in the Benfica district. It is the third temple erected in this place. It is a baroque building with one tower at the facade. The interior is decorated with paintings by Pedro Alexandrino and stucco decorations.
The construction of the church began in 1750. It was interrupted by an earthquake. During the reconstruction of the city, work continued. A single-nave church with four side chapels was built. At its back there is a parish church. Stairs lead to the entrance.
The interior is decorated with colorful marble panels in different colors. The main altar with two Corinthian columns and a stepped cornice were also made of this stone. In the central part of the altar is the gilded Throne of the Blessed Sacrament. The vault is covered with paintings of Litany's calls to the Virgin Mary.
