The Church of Our Lady of Loreto is located in the Chiado district. It is a baroque building with a facade decorated with sculptures made by the Italian master Borromini. The one-nave interior is surrounded by twelve Italian marble chapels. On the vault you can see paintings from the end of the 18th century depicting Our Lady of Loreto.
The temple of Our Lady of Loreto was founded in the 16th century by the Italian Lisbon community. To this day, it bears the common name of the "Italian Church". The first temple burned down at the beginning of the 17th century. In its place, the today's church was built, which suffered a lot of damage during the earthquake. However, its facade and side chapels lined with Italian marble have been preserved.
The facade of the church has three parts. It is crowned with a classicistic cornice and a baroque gable with the figure of Our Lady of Loreto. The main entrance is surrounded by a portal with the papal coat of arms, next to it are statues of saints Peter and Paul, which were to carve Italy Borromini.
