Armazens do Chiado is one of the longest-existing department stores in Lisbon. It was opened in 1894. It is now a small shopping center in the Chiado district, with over fifty shops and restaurants on the top floor, from which you can enjoy the view of the city.
Armazens do Chiado department store mainly sold textiles and clothing accessories. In the second half of the 20th century, it slowly began to change into a shopping center. His story was interrupted in 1988 when a massive fire destroyed nearly 20 buildings in the Chiado district. From Armazens to Chiado only the neoclassical facade has been preserved.
In 1999 Armazens do Chiado was reopened as a shopping center. It has six above-ground and underground levels. There are mainly boutiques, as well as a grocery store and a dozen restaurants and bars.
