The Carmo Archaeological Museum is located within the ruins of the Carmelite Monastery in Lisbon. It is a museum presenting objects unearthed during archeological works in the house and its surroundings. There are also pottery collections and two pre-Columbian mummies brought to Portugal from its colony.
The museum is housed in a former Carmelite monastery destroyed during the earthquake in 1755. He occupies his presbytery. The naves of the church have collapsed and now only their pillars supporting the arches are standing.
In the Museum's collections you can see swords belonging to the founder of the monastery Nuno Álvares Pereira. There are also sarcophagi from Roman and medieval times, including the tomb of King Ferdinand I, azulejos panels depicting the Passion of the Lord. The museum conducts educational activities, organizes workshops and lessons for children and youth.
