Lagoa is a resort town on the Algarve Coast. Although it is not located directly by the sea, the nearest beaches can be reached in several minutes. The biggest attractions of this part of the coast are picturesque rock formations with the very famous Benagil cave at the head.
Most of the town has low, quite traditional buildings. Despite the distance from the sea, there are many guesthouses and apartments for rent. By using a car, you can get to the beaches efficiently, and large parking lots make it easy to leave the vehicle near the sea.
The part of the Algarve coast around Lagoa is known for its great diversity. There are cliffs, interesting rock formations and coastal caves. The biggest attraction on the coast near Lagoa is the Benagil Cave. You can see it on most advertisements and brochures encouraging you to relax in the south of Portugal. You can get to the grotto from the land, but a much more experience is a cruise, during which you not only enter the cave, but also look at the surrounding cliffs.
The sandy Benagil Beach and Corredoura Beach, protected by high cliffs, are nearby. In addition to grottos and cliffs, in this area you can also admire unusual rock formations protruding from the water.
