Guia is a town on the Algarve coast and home to the Zoomarina theme park. There are also some excellent beaches here, and within the city center there are traditional buildings with Renaissance and Baroque hotels and pretty houses.
The town was owned by the bishops of the Algarve for centuries. Hence, despite its not very impressive size, many churches were founded here. The 15th-century church of St. Mary with an azulejos tile floor, the Baroque Church of St. Sebastian and the parish church of an irregular shape, enclosed with numerous chapels. The remains of the city's fortifications come from the 16th century, including the Old Tower in Guia, which today serves as a holiday apartment and is not open to the public.
The main attraction of Guia is the Zoomarina Algarve. It is a theme park that shows animals living in the seas all over the world. In the huge pools you can admire sharks, dolphins and colorful tropical fish.
