Vasco da Gama Aquarium
Local name: Vasco da Gama Aquarium
The Vasco da Gama Oceanarium is located in the town of Cruz Quebrada near Lisbon in Portugal. It offers extensive museum collections and exhibits on marine life. In 90 special aquariums you can admire over 400 species of fauna and flora, both fresh and saltwater. Turtles, sea lions, tropical animals and invertebrates deserve special attention.
The Vasco da Gama Oceanarium has an educational function thanks to 5 exhibition halls that bring visitors closer to the collection of oceanic invertebrates, sharks, species specific to Portugal, birds, mammals and aquatic plants. You can also get information on the protection of endangered species. The museum's goal is to offer visitors contact with the water world.
An additional attraction for children is the garden tank, where you can feed fish.
The Vasco da Gama Oceanarium was founded in 1898. It enjoyed the special support of King Carlos I, who offered the museum his private collection of rare ocean collections.
