Campo do Gerês is a village in the middle of the beautiful Peneda-Gerês National Park. It is a tourist center, around which there are many scenic hiking trails. It also has traditional stone buildings that have not changed for centuries.

In antiquity, a Roman road ran through this area. Since 2013, a museum has been operating in the town devoted to this route, as well as the historical methods of road construction and their maintenance. When visiting Campo do Gerês, you cannot miss the extraordinary Vilarinho das Furnas Ethnographic Museum. It presents items saved from the village of Vilarinho das Furnas, which was flooded during the construction of the dam. They include everyday items, costumes, ceramics and folk crafts.

During the season, Campo do Gerês is filled with tourists setting off on the surrounding hiking trails. Mountain hikes, views of the peaks and river valleys are the greatest attractions of the Campo do Gerês area. You can, among others reach the Pedra Bela viewpoint from which you can see the artificial lake and the dam, as well as the Portela do Homem waterfall.
