Aljezur is a seaside town with beautiful, traditional white buildings on the one hand and beautiful sandy beaches with excellent surfing conditions on the other.

The center of the village is situated on an elevated position and slightly distant from the coast. The buildings are surrounded by a hill, on the top of which there are the ruins of a Moorish castle from the 10th century. Its mighty walls and a cistern for drinking water have been preserved to this day. Walking along the streets of Aljezur you can visit, among others the chapel of St. Antoni, the historic Misericordia hospital and the gallery of the artist Jose Cercas. In the lower part of Aljezur, the city market is a big attraction, selling fish, seafood and agricultural products.

However, most tourists visit Aljezur for its sandy beautiful beaches. The most famous of them is Arrifana beach, which is popular with surfers. Monte Clerigo beach, Vale dos Homens beach and Canal beach also provide excellent conditions for relaxation in the surroundings of fabulous landscapes.
