Post Augustinian library

Local name: Biblioteka poaugustiańska

The library is located in the post-Augustinian monastery complex recognized as Historic Monument. It consists of a rich collection of books and globes. A characteristic feature of the facility is perfect acoustics obtained thanks to the so-called "whispering vault". Its walls are decorated with monumental, 18th-century frescos.

The Gothic complex in Żagań was built from 1284 to the 18th century. It was decorated by Silesian artist Jerzy Wilhelm Neuenherz, author of frescos.

Augustinians abandoned the monastery in 1810 while the medieval collection of books were moved to the university library in Wrocław. Part of books from this period was sold. The collection preserved books from between the 17th and 19th century and globes. Especially worthy of attention is the piece of the Bible from the 8th century.
